The company that owns the Ambassador Bridge has hired a Livonia company to design a portable bridge. The 4-lane bridge would be called into action should traffic on the Ambassador Bridge be halted because of a natural disaster or terrorist attack. Bridge officials stress it's not a second span to the Ambassador Bridge and could be picked up and used at other crossings.American Consulting Professionals of Michigan will work on the design. The Detroit International Bridge Company also says it will work with federal agencies on the design. Officials with the bridge company say it could speed up economic recovery in the event of a disaster. It announced it's plans yesterday at the Northern Border Security Conference in Warren Michigan.
