| Financial woes for OMERS continue | Thu Jul 29th, 2010 |
An indication of how the financial meltdown of 2008 continues to affect the city of Windsor. The Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System took a big hit during the financial crisis and at the end of last year had a $1.5 billion dollar shortfall. That's expected to grow to $5-billion dollars over the next four years. As a result the plan is increasing employer and employee contributions by 1 % in each of the next three years. The city's finance department is still working on what that will mean but an early estimate suggests it'll mean another $1.5 to $2 million in expenditures next year. Employees will also have to increase their contributions. | |
